State Open Weightlifting Championship was held recently in Government Post Graduate College (Rajkiya Snatkottar Mahavidyalaya), Dehri, District Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. In this Championship, five students of 10+2 of Akal Academy Baru Sahib participated in different weight categories won 5 medals creating a state record.

In 77 Kilogram Junior weight category, Harjeet Singh bagged the Gold medal with a lift of 152.5 Kilogram in the Snatch Clean and Jerk competition. He was adjudged the best weightlifter of the State in Junior men’s weight category.

In 85 Kilogram weight category, Gurpreet Singh won the Gold medal too with a lift of record-breaking 155 Kilogram in the Snatch Clean and Jerk.

In 77 Kilogram weight category, Avtar Singh secured the Silver medal with a lift of 130 Kilogram. In 85 Kilogram weight category, Navteet Singh won the Silver medal with a lift of 135 Kilogram.

In 94 Kilogram weight category, Gurinder Singh Kang won the Silver medal with a lift of 140 Kilogram.

Praising the hard work of the students and their coach, Principal Dr. Neelam Kaur and Director Dr. Davinder Singh congratulated the medal winners and their coach Mr. Anupam Sharma. The Akal Academy students gave all the credit of their achievement to the coach, Principal and the Management of the school.

Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Government, Mr. Sushil Bhardwaj awarded the winners with medals on the concluding ceremony of the championship.
